Sometimes I wonder what’s happening to my greater community of aging parents. By aging, I am talking about the 40’s and 50’s aged parents who still have kids in elementary school and middle school.

I’m now observing that more and more parents are trying to balance their identities as middle-aged professional, as stay at home or working parents and as adrift mid-lifers.

There is no magic pill… but one thing I’ve observed to be true is that we cannot live through our children’s development every single minute of every day. It will literally drive us crazy. I also need to say that when we moms get together, it’s okay to talk about our kids until it’s not okay and we need to actually talk about ourselves. Ahem!

Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Don’t let your parent identity overrun your individual identity. Especially as you hit mid life, you’ll need to focus more on self care – even if it’s only 30-minutes a day. #midlifeparenting #selfcare #OwnYourIdentity

Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
