As I sit in discomfort from fasting this morning, I curse myself for having to wait for an 11:30 a.m. physical with my doctor instead of a sane time like 8:30 a.m. What was I thinking? I’m starving. And black coffee can only go so far.
I can’t really work as I still fight recent jet lag. I can’t really put more complex thoughts together and I’m tired of social media and reading bad news to while away my hangriness.
What better way to suffer than in the good company of Frodo in Lord of the Rings. As the evil calls for its precious and he carries a terrible burden, one far worse than my hunger, it serves as a reminder that it takes discomfort to achieve the extraordinary in life. At least it did for Frodo.
Your mission to achieve Superhumanness: Live with Discomfort. Embrace being uncomfortable at least some of the time. Good things come to those who work hard at it. But it’s not always about working hard – it’s about working outside of your comfort zone to achieve the extraordinary.
Be kind along the journey and remember, you got this!
