Over the holidays, I was posing a question to family and friends during a debate on reducing our carbon footprint. What will eco-conscious families do about their second home?
In an earlier blog post, I mention my second home. A condo that we had to sell at an all time low, after purchasing the expensive urban unit at an all time high. We immediately resolved any guilt we had about our carbon footprint (ahem).
And now after making such a big mistake, we have little to no desire to jump back in. I feel such a load off after selling. It gives us the ability to focus on our primary home – what I am now calling our “urban retreat”.
There has already been a movement to work from home and minimize an additional office. I am sure there will be more of a movement for families who live in an urban “nature” setting to make their homes work for them during staycations. I’d like to order an outdoor pizza oven, a rock climbing wall for the kids and more outdoor seating with a deck out front. A sauna would be nice, too…
