We live in a world that is no longer bonded by the idea of “we’re in this together”. It seems that we’ve become more and more isolated, whether it’s home to car to home or stay home and work remotely from a screen. Unless we take public transit or work in organizations focused on helping the needy, it’s easy to create a safe bubble and ignore AND vilify anyone else who is not like-minded.
Sure, for work-at-home dwellers, we have moments of sitting in a social setting, like a cafe, but we are still shutting out the buzzing community with every dopamine hit coming from screen interactions.
And so it’s no wonder that our world is turning into an uncivilized mess where people are completely “me” focused and they don’t even know how to have empathy for their neighbors or town residents, much less for every residing human being in the U.S.
At least that’s why I think our government can get away with this finger pointing – and it’s ridiculously obvious that there is no longer group accountability. It’s so counter productive it makes me want to scream.
When can humanity focus on the fact that we are not just a blip in a centuries-long timeline that needs to focus on here, now and the almighty dollar that breeds power.
If we had a moment to think about the long-view, we would see that, by bonding together, we can really make an impactful difference for the generations to come, by our group actions right now. And the most important thing we need to reteach, and relearn ourselves, is empathy.
