Hi there… I’m Agent S1.
My colleagues and fellow agents have been working hard to convince me I have something to say. And they’ve finally succeeded. So, time permitting, I’ll find my voice and you’ll be seeing more posts and responses from me soon.
A little background: I’ve worked in highly functional teams and in highly DYSfunctional environments (sometimes concurrently, believe it or not).
I’ve encountered similar challenges to the ones Agent M1 describes and ultimately made the big escape – to work for myself. Some people may see that as extreme or risky, but for me, it was simply the path of least resistance.
I’m exceptionally happy running my own business. It works for me because:
- I have no one to blame but myself. I learn from my mistakes and try new things. But ultimately, if I’m miserable, I got myself into it and I can get out!
- I have intimate knowledge of all aspects of the business. No wondering about layoffs or whether or not there’s too much overhead.
- The boundary between work and life is blurry. It’s surprising to me that this is on my “positives” list. When I was an employee, I was very disciplined about separating my work and home lives. Since starting my businesses, I’ve realized that the lack of boundary has made me happier and more productive in both realms.
