Human beings are always striving to change themselves. Sometimes it’s an adjustment to be better. Oft times it’s a giant leap to be something else -something or someone we are not.
It’s heart breaking when children grow up in conditions that are so far from what is actually normal, that they are too ashamed to be themselves. So they try on masks, or try to reside outside of their emotions as they become old enough to know they are being harshly judged for not “fitting in”.
Most of us cannot imagine that there are children who grow up with no idea of what normal looks like.
So, how do we manage change when our identity is anchored from the moment we come into our birthright until the moment we mature? How do we learn and define how to fit into the culture we’ve been born into?
Or… maybe it’s time to help redefine normal. We may not be able to completely change our identity to it’s core, but we can learn to adapt.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Learn to manage yourself through change. We cannot always change who we are, but we can manage how we interact within our environment, to help with dissonance and to better adapt.
Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
