At a conference I recently attended, one of the speakers was talking about the information society. In our world of over-available information, it is easy to fall for a story that looks real, but is not. In fact, one of the journalists presenting was saying that today when you want to get rid of information you do not like, you do not destroy it; you do not defend yourself; you simply drown it in a lot more contrary statements.
One piece of advice that I will absolutely put to practice is this. When looking at any “piece of information” always ask:
- Who is telling the story?
- Why would they know what they are reporting?
- What do they stand to gain by telling this story?
Your mission if you choose to accept it: Before you accept information as truth, question the credibility of the source. #fakenews #alwaysquestion
