#RPCL Log Date April 7, 2017: #BeingHuman #SlowDown

We like speed. And a lot of the time, money drives speed. We shorten timelines so we can get more for less. We try to beat the competitor by offering faster delivery. We plan so far ahead, we try to predict fashion a year and a half away, not just 12 months anymore. Speed can pay off. But… Speed can also create such inefficiency when we are not careful, that we are actually going backward in all of these things. If we try to predict too far into the fashion future, we could lose out on the real trends.

I also find that when we are in a rush, it’s like a justification switch turns on and we cannot see the bigger picture. We are too busy defending our case for speed, and not looking at everyone as equals who matter. How many times do I need to tell folks to treat everyone, I mean everyone, like your customer? Yes that means your employees. And your employer. Yes it means your partner at home and at work.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Slow down. Speed can make you less efficient, effective and expedient. In fact, speed can create unnecessary swirl. You may lose some empathy within the process.

Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
