It can be so easy to just live in the moment and eat girl scout cookies all day long. Not that I’ve done that this week. With so much talk about mindfulness, why not just live in a chocolate thin mint euphoria and deal with the suffering later?
We all have emotional baggage to unpack. And it’s hard to love thyself. It’s also corny as hell when I say it to myself. But I know deep down that my lack of self-confidence stems from my lack of self-love and appreciation for the individual I am. In fact, humans strive for too much sameness because it’s easier to blend than to stand out. And yet, there is only one of me, uniquely. So why not highlight my unique qualities instead of conform to society’s standards to the point where I risk losing (or burying) a key part of my core identity?
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: If you find it hard to like your reflection, make it your life’s journey to embrace your flaws and care for what you see inside and out. It goes back to putting the oxygen mask on your face first. The more you are centered and know who you are, the better you will be to those for whom you choose to care and be present.
Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
