Love-based leadership was a thing before this past election, when people were seeing that fear-based leadership was not effective at achieving healthy cultures in companies.
Now I think about two things: The hatred of leadership and The leadership of hate.
First of all, hatred of leadership is when we love to hate our bosses or company leaders the minute they show poor leadership. Why? They have control over our fate, so we want to find flaws. Reptilian brain takes over, and we are wary that they care about themselves first. Once the relationship is built, trust or fear make or break any employment deal.
Then, there is this new phenomena I call the leadership of hate. Hate is appealing to the masses more than hope. It’s appalling how many people believe they have been empowered to do their job (I.C.E) in a way that is enforcing crimes against humanity. Truly abhorrent, and no different than other unstable and dangerous regimes where folks live to defeat a common enemy.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Reflect on why you have fear or hate of certain personality types. Do you fear for yourself, or are you buying into a collective fear? Do you know if it’s fact-based or do you believe it because of the trusted source?
Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
