Do you find when you are stressed that your mood can turn dark quickly? Imagine a stressed and angry Luke Skywalker. What would have happened if he let his anger take control over his emotions? It’s sort of the EQ (Emotional Quotient) question. Do you lash out in anger or do you count to ten in your head and stay calm?
Leaders can exhibit the behaviors that the rest of us like to model. When we see angry, we see how it looks when we wear it. Try it on like a new super suit. When we see calm and collected, we try that one on, too. And when we see a lot of each, it starts to become so normal, our subconsciousness adopts the cues fairly easily.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Become more aware of your stressed state of mind, and avoid letting it bring out your dark side. If we can manage our emotions, the force will be with us.
