Do you feel weird or just different from others at home, at school, at work or in life in general? Are your parents from somewhere else and they don’t feel very culturally adaptive within your city or town?
My mom is from Asia and I remember growing up thinking that everyone had parents that spoke another language. I never learned tagalog but I just knew it was normal that my mom spoke it to her relatives on the phone.
But I learned pretty fast that I looked different, and along with my siblings we were called derogatory labels that didn’t mean much to us until we were old enough to get irritated that it actually happened.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Combat your fear of being different. You are okay, just as you are.
Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go.
