This morning my daughter climbed in to snuggle, but then turned on me and said “you ruined our fort, didn’t you”, as she heard her sister exclaim “our fort” from downstairs.

And just like that, happy child turned to angry child. In truth her prediction was wrong this time. But chances were high that I would clean up the fort before bedtime.

It seems we carry our snap judgment, the ability to react too quickly, into adulthood. Which is why managing our emotions is crucial in positions of power. That includes power in relationships of any kind from leading to parenting.

When we discipline from a place of anger, our response helps us to feel justified, even though it may not help us to understand why, or gain control and see clearly enough to appropriate the proper punishment.

When we discipline from a place of logic, we can gain clarity and more effectively plan how to ensure the lesson is understood and hopefully the mistake not repeated.

Your mission to achieve Superhumanness: Avoid snap judgment. Instead, listen and assess how important it is to weigh in or take measures.

Be kind along the journey and remember, you got this!
