Happiness

There’s a lot of talk about happiness lately.  When I first had kids, it was nearly impossible to find time, any time, to spend on myself, to do the (non-kid) things that made me happy.  Between all the responsibilities of motherhood and keeping my career alive, I couldn’t find five minutes for myself.  Many of my girlfriends told me to make time to be happy, that it was important.  “A happy mommy is a good mommy.” “If you take the time for yourself, you’ll be more productive at work.”

Well, nowadays, this happiness thing is really taking off. It seems everyone is talking about it in one way or another. And it’s becoming serious business too. Scientists are researching it.  In fact, so much has been done that there’s a database full of studies on happiness.  Companies are paying for staff happiness workshops!  There is a best selling book about it.  One country even has a governmental department dedicated to measuring its people’s happiness!

If it’s so important, maybe I should make an effort to be happy too.  But how can I do that?  And how will I know if I’m happy?

Someone once told me:

You have to have been unhappy to know you’re happy.

I know I’ve been unhappy.  And I’m not now, so I must be happy!  In fact, those giggles I had at the breakfast table with my little monkeys (AKA kids) are a sure sign of it.  It’s marvelous – and easy to do once you set your mind to it!

I’m sure you’ll like it too.  Go on – give it a try!!!
