Human Fear – What Drives Us?

I was scanning an article in Fast Co. about how insecurity can contribute to success in business and life. This is news, since the usual message is that confidence and, what is not called ego but really is ego, can forge success.

The question may not be about whether we all have fear / insecurity, since it’s in our very nature to fear in life. Didn’t someone say that death was the perfect design of life, to ensure we are always innovating and getting better? (Maybe that was Jobs – and said a little differently).

So for me, I am driven by both happiness and fear. Fear of the past.  What I don’t want for myself or my children. Happiness for the present and future. What I love about what we have and want to keep today and tomorrow.

But beyond myself, it’s purpose driven success that I seek for my family – as the ultimate happiness in life. We define success by how much we’ve made a difference, not by how many objects of consumerism we own.

And I fear that I don’t have enough time to see the change we/they can really make.
