We had a fantastic girl scout meeting this evening, where a troop leader shared the ins and outs of puberty to our girls. The faces were a mix of embarrassment and curiosity. On a spectrum between nervous and excited, most girls stood in the middle.
Near the beginning of the talk, my daughter raised her hand and shared a very personal and, clearly for her, vulnerable moment about puberty. Suddenly the flood gates opened and one by one, each girl spoke out in support of her and shared a vulnerability too. It may have been just the ice breaker needed for this clan.
Your mission to achieve Superhumanness: Find your strength through your vulnerability. Contrary to our culture of managing bravado, sharing your vulnerability is actually the strongest thing you can do as a leader. My daughter certainly proved that it’s possible to start leading as young as age ten.
