The Marriage Pendulum #genderroles

Society certainly has a way of playing a cruel joke on the smuggles. That would be those of us who are taking a higher moral ground about what we deserve.

As a woman, I know I’ve certainly been a long-time trailblazer of what I expect in the workplace, and what I’ve been willing to fight for. Gender equity, equal respect and same consideration for roles and pay raises.

And yet, I was talking to a friend about how hard it is as a mom and wife and professional to love it all. Having it all is not what it’s chalked up to be. Sometimes, she said, she’d like to be the one who is taken care of.

Well, me too. I don’t want to be the hero all the time, either. The divorce rate is higher because of these gender role reversals, and Agent NC said she believes it’s because the pendulum swung from one extreme to another – and never stopped in the middle where we wanted it to stop.

That’s how I feel, a lot. And I think this is why we struggle so much with the marriage pendulum and our role reversals. We need to find the middle ground again, for the sake of a healthy marriage and family unit.
