A friend reached to me the other day to run his new business idea by me. Within the first 20 minutes, I was surprised to hear him say “we all know that 90% of start ups fail…”
Whoa, wait a minute. Did he just say 90%? I leaned in. I needed to dig in to find out how he defined failure.
He was surprised when I countered with “you know, that’s b.s.”
Here’s my plea to all entrepreneurs out there. If you are talking to VC’s and measuring yourself against Zuckerberg, you might have less than 1%, let alone 10% chance of achieving success. But if you are realistic about your goals and downsizing your life as you are attaining them, then who knows?
For Martin, future success might mean making millions, but for now, it’s freedom. And the minute he quits his job, he will have achieved his immediate goal!
