Remember your parents telling you to ‘go outside and play’? When’s the last time you heard it? Said it? Thought it?
Well I think about it all the time. I dream about the day when unstructured play trumps our over-scheduled child’s lives.
Maybe I’m dreaming. But it’s a big contributing factor to why parents today are time-starved. We have no time off until bed time.
In an effort to solve my issue, and ultimately to create a tighter knit community, I emailed my neighbors and asked if they were interested in unstructured play. The answer was a hands-down, “yes”.
I know it’s weird to plan unstructured play, but I think this is the new wave of defining freedom and “time-off”. And now we can use technology in order to schedule free-time so that it’s somewhat painless!
What about you – do you have other solutions for creating unstructured free time for both children and adults?
