Many of us have reached a point in our lives when we’ve been asked about lending our expertise, and even charging for it.
How do you know what to charge?
Some markets and industries bear more than others. For instance, an NGO in global markets might only warrant day rates of $600-$800. At creative agencies, a day rate might average $2,500.
For consulting fees, I’ve seen anywhere from $50 to $300 per hour (not including legal fees or large agency fees that go up to $800/hour).
Being the negotiator, I can tell you one thing. No matter what you charge, it is SO important to manage expectations and ensure your potential or existing client really understands the value they are receiving.
I might charge more for a website than some one else, but here’s why. My team has decades of experience. We are all used to working at the highest level in agencies and you get the same value for much less. We will also build in x, y, and z for your fee because we value your business. Etc.
What about you? Do you know what you are worth? Have you had an exceptionally positive or negative experience? Please share!
