Beauty is a thing of subjectivity. And yet, we objectify and create norms around a standard. Studies have been done (i.e. Nat’l Geo) on the empirical definition of beauty across cultures. Scientists believe we are hardwired in our beliefs. But I know one thing to be true: Beauty lives in confidence, and is coming from a place of self awareness. In other words, we can own our shit, be okay with being vulnerable and still stand powerful on our journey.
When I feel confident, my stride is confident and I know I can ocasionally turn heads. And that’s despite my age. I’ve hit the age of invisibility in my life, where I’m barely noticeable as compared to my younger self.
And I don’t care. I know that beauty is not all external. What I exude is internal beauty, in being self-possessed or clearly confident in my ability to speak about a subject.
So my challenge to all of you (especially women) out there who are only measuring their beauty against the celebrity version of beauty is to #effyourbeautystandards.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Stand confident and radiate your inner beauty. You are beautiful just as you are.
Whatever others may think of you is inconsequential, as long as you feel grounded and settled from inside. #effyourbeautystandards #beinghuman #standbeautiful #standconfident #justasyouare
