There is a fine balance between how we perceive the depths and the limits of time. A friend of mine says that time is elastic. Simple, brilliant and so true. That very idea puts a layer of superhuman perspective on how we fold, bend, arc, stretch and manipulate time in our lives.
It’s a healthy perspective for those of us who are deadline driven because of project work. The best leaders see that time can be elastic. They understand that hard deadlines are no longer hard fast when lives are at stake or clients are not available for sign off or people get sick. And frankly with technology coming toward us at the speed of light, we simply cannot keep up, and it’s draining our productivity and energy.
Humans are the most fluid, and at times the most unpredictable contributors to perceiving and creating time boundaries.
When we see that, understand it and realize we cannot consume ourselves with the perfection of time for self-preservation (there’s that concept again), only then can we start to harness our superhuman perspectives as leaders. And those are the leaders most of us want to follow!
Your mission to achieve your Superhumanness: Go with the flow of time. Don’t let time constrain you. It’s elastic. It cannot be stopped or constrained. We need time boundaries, but we need to be flexible in our assessment of how fluid they can be.
