There was a time when every marketer new the magic to marketing: sex sells. Put anything on a model, sell sleek, and you had a higher chance of sales.
It occurred to me last night that we have a new currency for marketers. When talking about how to position something almost boring – reunification – in a sexy way, I blurted out that hate sells. Anger sells. Sex? Passé (for now).
Sound bites such as grabbing body parts, or women needing to dress like women in the news is so yesterday. Front and center is anger as the new currency.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Take a hard look at your anger. Why are you so angry? What is fueling your anger? What would it take to make you less angry? If you were to take away labels, what causes do you want to see gone and what issues do you support?
