This weekend, I found my sanctuary and did a ton of writing, in bed, with copious quantities of espresso, heater on full steam to keep me all cozy.
The circumstances were unusual as I am a full time PLUS mama who is constantly running around and trying to manage the life of four in our chaotic world. And my work suffers with 2pm let out at school and play dates and dance class and and and.
So it was a joy to actually be able to write for 8 hours straight. And not worry about cooking for anyone or even eating food on a plate. Hard boiled eggs can be consumed in two bites, so why dirty a dish?
Finding your sanctuary is a necessary evil in todays mass-distraction media-blasted world.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Find your bat cave, your place of solitude to sit with your thoughts, and find a way to make it a ritual in your life. Is your bat cave a yoga studio, a room for meditation, an office with doors and a view of nature, a cabin in the mountains, a basement, or a bathtub with candles? Whatever and wherever, creating time to unplug and sit with yourself and with your thoughts, or with a blank slate, will make you a better and more grounded person. Hopefully it’s the right dose of medicine to calm your nerves, or get your pistons firing at normal speed again. Now go tell a friend what you’ve done and share your experience!
Be kind. Be secret. (It’s a bat cave!) Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
