When we declare war on left and right politics, we are declaring war over values. In the end, it’s a zero sum game. Our values are not that different, but the spin has turned them into black and white polar opposites. So the end result is a war over being right. I picture the winner on top of a destroyed planet with a smug look until they open their eyes to actually see they won for no great cause, just self.
There are so few winners, yet everyone is willing to fight with their lowest level of human behavior (anger, name calling, threats) to be right. It’s like Team America when Kim Jun Il sings “I’m so Ronery” (I’m so lonely) as leader of N. Korea, with no one to talk sitting on his lonely throne.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Try not to engage in a battle over being right, without looking critically at your own values.
