Reviews about Reviews

So the day ends like this. I’m sitting down with a co-worker and he has a hint of a smile on his face. The kind of expression that says there’s a story to tell.  So I mention to him that it’s coffee time and would he like to join me? He nods and we quietly walk to the local cafe.  In line, he starts to open up and tell me about an awkward moment with a colleague. She walks up to him earlier in the day and hands him a piece of paper, folded. He looks down at her and then further down at the folded piece of paper. She stumbles over her delivery but gets the point across that HR wanted him to have it. It was the format for employee reviews and a secret note, because he was the only one who requested an outline for his review. It felt so secret-agent. I smiled wide. Perfect and very random example of being human at work, imperfect as we are.
