4-Day Work Week

Last year I made a predication about transforming the work week. Today I just read two articles about 4-day work weeks and flexibility at work.

These days, I am discovering this growing excitement and passion about helping employers create passionate places to work, filled with purpose. Imagine that, every day you go to work, you are doing your life’s work. You are as fulfilled there, as you are living your wildest dreams outside of work. Somehow, the two meld. And you can CHOOSE when you are at work, and when you are home. The industrial age-old era of 8 to 5 is (someday) obsolete.

I am amazed and a little giddy about this idea of the newer generations demanding more time for themselves – perhaps because their current work isn’t their life’s work. Another study in the Huff Post supports a new idea of a 10 am start time at work (similar to my prediction of a flexible work day). I personally would love that idea. Get the kids to school, get in a little personal time (work out or grabbing java and breathing deeply).

After reading about the tragic loss of Sheryl Sandberg’s husband to a freak accident on a treadmill, don’t we all want to take back time and ensure we are enjoying our time on earth? Seizing every second of every day, making our mark?

And I’m not talking about living on 4 hours of sleep a night, folks. Unhealthy.

Let’s forget work/life balance. Let’s call it work/life flexibility. Or as my partner brilliantly coined, work/life collage.
