Being a Gentle Opportunist

When I think of human capital, I don’t necessarily focus on people or networks as currency. I first ask – how can I help this person? What gifts or talents do they have, and perhaps don’t even realize they have? How can we bring out their best to produce the best results for a particular profession?

I like to help people to a fault, it’s true. But I am also a very very aggressive growth entrepreneur. I believe we need to drive our ideals and dreams higher and higher. And it’s hard to have the split personality of owning two companies to get there.

That’s why I rely on faith and belief in people even if they don’t match a job description. I don’t think of a person in the role of a single position – I imagine all of the ways we can journey together and help one another. By letting folks go, it’s letting them down. And for me, the journey really really matters.

Especially when I know how many struggling women (and yes I’m partial to the mama’s) are out there trying to find the balance of professional bliss and financial freedom and flexible time. Is there such a thing today, I wonder?

I’m becoming less optimistic. Okay, maybe it’s been a tough four months! I need to hit the reset button.
