Drawing a Line in the Sand

At what point are you crossing the line between professional roles? Between taking care of you vs your co-worker or boss?

I think I cross the line over and over again.  I continue on with the best intentions, never mind the backlash, fatigue or general suffering.

If you’ve followed the course of my exit plan, it’s been a perilous journey of self-discovery! It’s a moment in life when we look fear straight in the eyes. And we see our own reflection, looking back. Fear is trying to warn us of the risks of change, or the loss of friends (close co-workers) we see every day.

Maybe she’s telling us that we are an imposter and won’t succeed anywhere new.

Whatever she or he tells you, you know what they do in fairy tales. Break the damn mirror. Forget about 7 years of bad luck. By shutting down the left, logical and reptilian part of the brain, you can open your mind to achieving the unimaginable.

Take care of you. (And find strong support along the way!)

Don’t fret over how much your co-workers need you. Or, what would your boss would do without you. Which leads me to another part of the “line in the sand” equation. I’ve been too generous in my amount of time I’ve offered to stay through the transition. Don’t give so much that you forget to take a few days for yourself (I gave 8 weeks). I was vague enough to slightly edit my offer and take a four day weekend before my first day at Company Z.

Draw your line in the sand.
