Who’s Your Sponsor?

When we trace the steps of every well-known female success story out there, I bet we can find a mentor or sponsor somewhere along the journey. Maybe it was a college professor or parent. Maybe a close friend.

When taking a class from David Gergen at Harvard back in 2004, he shared a video where each of the featured (three or four) model leaders had their parents to thank for instilling strong values and offering their support. Although parents might play a key role, sometimes we rely on our 3rd grade teacher or friends to mentor us along the way.

Who’s your sponsor? Do you have someone who’s helped you in your life? Someone who changed your perception of the world and of yourself?  Someone who either gave you tough love or held your hand every step of the way? I have. And while I can attribute my values to my parents, I definitely had a lot of help along the course of my early adulthood up to now.

At Covert Leadership, I believe that we are not only agents who are sponsoring one another when defining our own success, we are all mentors and sponsors to our broader community. Consider us a resource for helping out.

It starts with blogging. Workshops. You.
