I wish I didn’t have to read the news every day. A lot of people say “I don’t read it. I shut it out”. And I understand it. But I just can’t.
The biggest reason is, I suppose, to be prepared. By knowing what is being said and done and the reactions of people, I can better estimate the future.
This is why I read a broader spectrum of material, from news to business journals to academia. It does me no good to stay in one individual vertical or silo and know a category upside down and sideways without knowing contrary opinions. It’s just too limiting.
I’m less and less interested in being surrounded by a like minded community. I look for meaningful diversity. The kind where we approach tension created from unique experiences and individual thought. Maybe tension turns into conflict, or maybe it leads to entirely new thought that all parties can agree to.
Your mission to achieve Superhumanness: Create healthy tension and augment your like-minded community with meaningful diversity. Try and push your thinking beyond your thought barriers. You can’t possibly have all of the answers. And if you don’t stray from a single source, you’ll lose perspective and your ability to anticipate the future.
Be kind along your journey and remember, you got this!
