Follow Your Path

Six years ago, I directly managed ten senior staff and oversaw a team of over 700 who were implementing projects worth ~$20 million per year.  For the last five and a half years, I have had a hiatus from all of that, from managing staff, and ensuring quality programming, and juggling money, and signing off on procurement and vehicles usage, and all of that other busy-ness.

I get tired and stressed just thinking about it.

Sure, I’ve managed independent little projects these last years.  I’ve supervised over 30 consultants.  I’ve supported others with their projects.  But really, these years have been a break from being part of a big hungry machine.  It has been a real lifestyle change – and it’s been wonderful!

Today, I am at a fork in the road, at a decision point.  I am very lucky – I have choices.  I am in the very enviable position of being able to choose my professional life:  how much and with whom I work.

And I have decided.  I have chosen to continue.  I will continue to choose clients who pay enough, not the most, because they are ethical and just.  I will continue volunteering skills and resources to help those that I can.  I will continue to buy less so that I can play more.  I will continue to make choices based on feelings and ethics, not things and money.

What about you?  On this beautiful spring day, can you too start fresh on a path that you choose so that you can follow your heart?
