Today my daughter corrected my use of language twice. I said “Honey put on your cowboy boots please.” She said “cowGIRL boots.”
Then I said hurriedly (as we were getting her ready for a party), “Yes, yes. I mean cowgirl boots. And do you want to wear your cowboy hat?”
“CowGIRL hat,” she said with her 6-year old don’t mess with me look.
Ha. Oh yeah. And it’s not WoMEN’s march. It’s WoMXN’s march. And it’s not only HIStory. It’s HERstory.
Welcome to the next generation of power-girls.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Be mindful of your language. What are your biases? Can you identify them? Try and choose your words wisely, and replace default pronouns. Why is a sailboat “she”. Is Climate change “man-made”.
Be kind. Be safe. Be appropriate. Now go!
