This morning I sat outside on my sunny porch to work. When I opened my laptop and checked email, the first note I read was from a good friend who lives in Myanmar. She shared that a mutual friend is visiting and working with human trafficking sex survivors – young girls who don’t even wear bras yet.
And all this, just as I was enjoying my little bubble of sublime. Reality bites when we choose to acknowledge it.
So here’s my question. How do we teach empathy to the average self-righteous American who has no exposure to these atrocities, and therefore doesn’t really even believe they are true?
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Use real stories to help people understand human truths that go beyond their daily world. No one lives in the Truman show. And even if they try, some day it will come back to haunt them. #RealityBites #DontLiveTheTrumanShow #LearnEmpathy
