The Power of Gratitude

They say that the best companies to work for are the ones where people are grateful for what they have and freely express their gratitude toward each other.

This reminded of a company with whom I worked for about eight months.  I loved it!  My colleagues were passionate.  They were positive.  They gave me frequent and specific thanks.  They freely shared credit.  It was incredibly energizing and motivating, even when things weren’t going well!  We fed off each other and tried again.  It was amazing!

Unfortunately, I had visa issues and had to leave the country.  I continued working with this company for a few more months, remotely.  Though we both tried, we couldn’t make it work.  It wasn’t that sort of job.

These days, people talk about gratitude in personal contexts, particularly in yoga settings.  I don’t often however, hear the words being used in professional settings.  But maybe as leaders, we should change that and express gratitude and thanks for tasks well done, attitudes infected, support given, and assignments completed.

In what ways could you express gratitude to your colleagues?  For what could you express gratitude at work?  To whom?
