Climbing the Mountain

Lately I’ve been looking at a lot of imagery for clients that relate to mountain climbing. A woman stands atop a peak, ready to summit the next. A group of climbers are roped together as they descend a steep slope in snow. It’s a great metaphor for aspiring to dream big and to be bold enough to chase your ideals.

Yet how many folks can “just do it”? With no training, no idea where to go?

Changing careers in your 30’s or 40’s, buying a second home, taking a 1-year sabbatical to travel the world, all of these can feel as difficult as the idea of summiting Everest.

As someone who used to mountain climb (before kids when I actually exercised!), I can tell you that you don’t necessarily want to just walk up a mountain without preparedness – mental, physical, and  skills-training. And if you are a climber, then you’ll know what I’m talking about and appreciate that all of those courses on building a snow cave, crevasse rescue, and especially the training hikes, are a BIG part of the fun (and sometimes more fun than the summit, weather depending).

Why is going after your dream any different? How do you take it step by step and MAKE IT FUN?

There are a lot of courses or workshops out there that promote what you need to do, and why you need to do it, but we all seem to get stuck at where to start or how to really make it happen.

Remember, Rome really wasn’t built in a day.

Change needs to adapt to your lifestyle, so you can adapt to change.
