Everyone has a story of hitting an emotional wall. But I’m finding it uncanny when I’m watching it happen to so many amazing people around me. We’re a bunch of smart, driven and talented hot messes. I have to wonder, has this current administration put a damper on our psyche?

So this story is one of many that’s happening.

When someone decides to leave due to mental illness (and after you’ve rebounded from shock), it’s hard to lick your own wounds. Even when you are left with the emotional clean up. Maybe you try to figure out how to grieve this loss when it seems selfish to be self-focused. You’re not suffering from depression. Just everything else that this abrupt break up caused from heart break and loss to anger and disappointment. And above all, confusion. First of all, why? And secondly, why now?

And then to hear that there’s fear about destroying your dream, but they couldn’t help but leave. So of course, what you are hearing is that they couldn’t save themselves, and destroyed your dream as a side effect. Even if it’s not what they are trying to say.

And so without any clarity, the first default is to blame yourself. What did you do? Did you cause this?

Now what?

Process out loud. Seek advice. Withdraw. Cry in the shower. Armor up. Watch LOTR. Flip off the world. Eat your emotions. Exercise your anxiety away. Rinse, and repeat.

The short answer is to follow and trust your intuition. If you are unconsciously complicit, you cannot be responsible for anyone else’s actions and reactions. Let go of your inner caretaker. Don’t let your fear tell you it’s your fault.

Your mission to achieve Superhumanness: No more self-blame. It’s out of your control. And so you can’t take responsibility for others and maybe need to let go of your inner caretaker.

Be kind along your journey and remember, you got this!
