David has been working at the same company for almost two decades. He is now a middle aged man, with his family to support. He used to really enjoy his career. He even felt passion for it.
Today, he still likes his profession, but he suffers from depression due to his relationship with his boss. As you know, it is almost impossible to change your boss’ personality. You either leave your job, or you need to figure out how to live with your boss without getting angry all the time.
David’s stress has been increasing, and it has started to affect his health. It seems as if he’s always going to the doctor for new health issues. And, THAT depresses him even more.
He has told me that he really feels stuck. That he wants to leave his job, which makes him feel sick all the time. That he feels that his health is totally messed up. Yet, without a job and health insurance, he cannot afford to the see doctor like he is now. He also has to support his son through University.
So what’s holding him back? That he is no longer 20. And it makes him feel sick that he might be considered too old to find a new job or career to support his family.
Punchline: He is miserable everyday, yet not brave enough to leave his job. When we are older, we may be wiser, but risk-averse.
When we are young, change is a part of our development and growth in life, and we have fewer responsibilities. We think that we still have time to start over, try something new. We figure we will find something we love, eventually. And we believe we have lots of time to figure it out!
Some of us find a great job, both exciting and promising.
Some of us find a life partner, answering our dreams.
Some of us build a family, bringing lots of joy.
Because we have more experience, we tend to spend too much time on thinking and planning how to be careful. It gets harder and harder to ‘just do it’.
However, if we think about our life on a larger scale, then it is today, now, that we are the youngest in our life. Because every day is a new beginning. When you wake up, start now.
Why should we miss the best day of our lives to start “doing”?
What can you DO today to make your dream come true?
