It’s hard to find and follow a thread of hope weaving in and out of the every day. Especially when we have so much tugging at us. Our little ones who need more than hugs and kisses. Our fears of losing more than we can imagine. Our high-risk jobs, with variable income. And of course, our diminishing bank accounts as we save up for Uncle Sam.
I’m sort of at a road diverging in the wood, and not sure whether to sprint up and down both, or just pick one. And then once I commit, can I be guaranteed a safe bet, or will one risky decision lead to another and another?
If this describes you as an entrepreneur, welcome to the club. It’s not only “not going to be easy”, but it really is a lot of happy starts, false or short lived peaks and a few fiery pits. Occasionally the path is easy and clear ahead, but the mirage makes it look closer than it actually is, and it’s a steep climb to get there.
And then there is the unpredictability of people, our customers. With one quick flip of a switch, the lights go out. When we turn them back on, we are looking at a stranger. A new face. New rules of engagement. Low trust.
It takes a lot of courage to go out on your own, and even as things just happen, or luck falls in your lap, it’s not always that rosy. Be prepared to wear teflon.
Beware of the windy road less travelled.
